What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are custom-made, thin shells which can be attached to the front teeth for the purpose of improving a person's smile and overall appearance. They are generally used to cover up teeth which have become stained or chipped, and are also sometimes used to fill in gaps between the front teeth. This can be a very valuable procedure, since it can restore a beautiful smile and help a person enjoy greater self-confidence and a more positive outlook.

Types of Dental Veneers

There are two main types of dental veneers, those being a resin-based composite and veneers which are made out of porcelain. The porcelain veneers are very strong and thin caps which a dentist would emplace on either the sides or the tops of your teeth. In order to have the veneers attached, some small amount of enamel must be removed from the affected teeth. When you have porcelain veneers installed, they can either be the same color as the surrounding teeth, or a slightly whiter shade so as to improve your smile. Veneers which are made of a resin-based composite are similar in many respects to porcelain veneers, but they do require less enamel to be removed, and are somewhat less expensive than porcelain veneers. It's also usually easier to replace resin-based veneers if they should become damaged or broken.

What Types of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?

Some of the issues which can be effectively overcome by installing dental veneers include the following:
Crooked Teeth
Noticeable Tooth Decay
Chips or Cracks in the Teeth
Gaps Between the Front Teeth
Stains and Discoloration
Dental veneers are often used to overcome issues with the teeth, for instance teeth that resist whitening, and teeth that remain crooked or gapped even after having used braces. When veneers are installed, it usually requires the removal of a small amount of enamel, so it should be considered a permanent and irreversible process.

Dental Veneer Benefits

There are some considerable benefits to having dental veneers emplaced on your front teeth. They can help to improve the natural tooth shape and to reduce any gaps in the front teeth. They can also hide chips and any other kind of minor damage which might be showing. They can be used to improve the color of your teeth so you can have a brighter smile. When you know that your smile is more appealing, it can give your self-confidence a real boost and provide you with a more positive outlook.

Dental Veneer Lifespan

The reason that many people opt for porcelain veneers is that they generally will last much longer, in many cases 20 years or even more. While resin-based composite veneers are significantly less expensive, their normal lifespan is usually around five years, after which they would have to be replaced.

Dental Veneer Aftercare

Typical aftercare for dental veneers involves visiting your dentist for a follow-up, to make sure that the veneers are comfortable and that they have remained in place. You will generally be advised to avoid biting hard objects or grinding your teeth, and it would also be a bad idea to bite your nails. You should not chew on foods which are very hard, and you should never open objects with your teeth.

Our Technology

CEREC Technology allows us to provide our patients with Same Day Restorations.
No more messy impression materials or hassle with annoying temporaries! CAD/CAM Technology offers our patients the opportunity to have a beautiful restoration designed, fabricated and delivered in a single appointment! Here’s how:
Using, CEREC Technology, we are able to take a photo scan of your tooth with a special laser camera that safely captures the anatomy of the prepared tooth and renders it as a 3-dimensional image.

We then customizes your crown, inlay or onlay using your digital “impression” and 3D imaging software while you relax with a magazine or music headphones.

After the doctor approves the final design, the CEREC milling system employs CAD/CAM technology to shape your restoration from a high-strength, metal-free ceramic or composite block in a shade to match your smile. This eliminates the repeat visit after sending the impression off to a lab, as this is now able to be done right in the office while you are in the chair!
